American Well (AmWell) Telehealth / Telemedicine Company Review Cost & Pricing

American Well has been around a long time and has many health system customers. However, the $40 cash urgent care visit doesn’t seem like a game changer. This is a very expensive platform that also has a network of their own providers that could eventually compete with your organization.

American Well is starting to offer its software as a platform to smaller healthcare organizations. But again, it’s expensive and there are better options that can support you for many years to come.

Vidyo is their backbone video provider. This means you need special software for video and it requires a ton of bandwidth… more bandwidth than the average person may have available.

Their financial stability seems strong. They have raised over $140M in debt and equity to date. Anthem is a big investor and I’m sure they will look to be acquired or go public at some point.

American Well (AmWell) Cost/pricing: Expensive! Start up costs can be in the $100k range. The old saying, “you get what you pay for,” just don’t hold up with some of the other innovators out there.
